Blitsyn - My First Reindeer Rug

Blazing Blitsyn

These rugs have definitely sent me on a journey.  I have enjoyed every single one I have made.  Sometime last year, my niece, Bailee, messaged me to ask what other types of rugs I could do.  She was interested in completing Stetsyn's nursery in woodland creatures.  We settled on a moose, but luckily I wasn't able to start right away.  (Remember all those babies last year.)

She sent me this picture for inspiration:

At this point, I thought the Blizzard the Reindeer Rug by Ira Rott was the only way to go.  The pattern was very easy to work up.  Even though I wasn't able to get this finished by the deadline (shower date), it was not because it was difficult.  I just failed to keep up with my commitments.  So, I missed my opportunity to get the ooo's and aaa's by the crowd.  I'll let it slide this time. (Sorry Bailee!  Please post more pictures when you have it settled in his room!)

The next decision was how on earth could I make this work with buffalo plaid.  It is a gorgeous color and pattern and I want it to match as much as possible.  Finally, I just went for it!  There wasn't really a way to make it blocked like the traditional plaid pattern without a lot of planning and frustration.  So, I went with a different approach and just tried to apply the colors to the different sections.

The lighting was playing hard in my house that day, but you get the idea.  I was already running up against my deadline, so there wasn't much time for trial and error.  I just went with it!  The next group of pictures is the finished product.  The lighting is better, so hopefully, you can see just how close the red/black combination is to the original photo.

And now for the final result:

I love how this turned out!  Not truly buffalo plaid, but as close as I am going to get and still keep my sanity.

Next big project is still up in the air! Guess I'll keep stringing you along (#badyarnjoke)... ~RR
